A brief history of Australian wine. We have all heard how Australian wine has won an international reputation for quality and value. Australian wines have won major international awards, often edging out many long standing wine labels. Many of Australia’s wine makers are highly sought after by international wine makers.
The variety of Australian wine is vast due to our climate and wine making expertise. A wide range of wine styles, from full-bodied reds and deep, fruity whites through to sparkling, dessert and fortified styles are all made here.
In 2005 Australia ranked sixth in the list of world for producing wine: 1.4 billion litres of wine. We are consistently one of the top 10 wine-producing countries in the world. In 2006–07, Australian wine export sales were worth $2.87 billion; Growth of 4.4 per cent from 2005-06.
Countries that led the way importing our prized vino were the UK followed closely by the US and then Canada, Germany and New Zealand.
